Welcome to a resource for all those interested in this genus of orchids
Aerangis is a member of the plant family Orchidaceae which is one of the largest
plant families having 25,000 or more species. There are about 50 species of Aerangis
mainly restricted to the moist tropical regions of Africa, Madagascar and the Comoro Islands.
A hologlottis is also found in Sri Lanka and A punctata is found in Reunion.
The name of this genus is derived from the Greek words 'aer' (= air) and
'angos' (= urn), referring to the form of the lip.
